Witness the Almighty Honey Bee...
Does being large make you in charge? Or, does it make you complacent enough to be surpassed by harder workers? For consideration, Apis mellifera, the honey bee. At anywhere between 5 and 15 millimeters, their size doesn't hamper productivity, pollinating 80% of all fruit, vegetable and seed crops in the U.S. It helps that they never actually sleep. It also helps that a 40,000 strong colony communicates by dancing, basically conducting nature's most fruitful flash mob. And before you swat at the next one you see, you should know that the honey bee is the only insect to provide food for humans. Thanks, honey bee.
